Dear Users....., I have come up with an easier method for picking up objects
from the DPaint Art & Utility Disk than my previous example. The following
is a step-by-step example. (I made it as complete as possible!):
1. Select from the ART Disk lo-res/aliens.
2. Select the Appendages file.
3. Select the backround color (in this case, light grey) with the Right
Mouse Button.
4. Then select the Hollow Rectangle (upper-left of the rectangle box)
with the Left Mouse button.
5. Get rid of the Title and Control Panels by pressing F10 key.
6. Go to Upper Left Corner of Screen Alien/Appendages and draw the open
rectangle using the Right (Backround color) Mouse button, over the complete
screen down to the Lower Right Corner.
7. Get Control Panel back by pressing F10 key again.
8. Select Fill icon with left mouse button.
9. Press F10 key again to get rid of Borders.
10. Place cursor on any parts of the backround in the Appendages screen
and then, fill with backround color by pressing Right Mouse button. (Usually,
you can fill the whole backround by just clicking the button in any backround
location but, some of the objects on the screen may prevent a complete fill
because they block the edge of the screen.) You won't be able to see the fill
take place because the colors are the same, but you may want to fill with
another color at first so that when you fill with backround, you can see just
what gets filled.
11. At this point, either press F10 and then select the Brush Selection
Tool from the Control Panel or press (lower case) "b" which will always give
you a new brush cross-hairs without having to bring the borders back.
12. Once you have Brush Crosshairs, select one of the Objects that you
want to place in your work screen, with the left mouse button so you leave the
original on the screen. (swa
13. You will note that the Object now comes away with no backround around
it as a brush. (CONTINUED)
14. Now press "j" (Swap to Spare) and on your new screen, proceed to
manipulate the brush Object as you desire.
15. Now, each time you want a different part (Object) from the Appendages
screen, just "Swap to Spare" (j), pick up the part, and go back to your work
space.
16. Thereafter, you will only have to go through this procedure starting
at step #4, only when you need to load a new set of parts, such as
Aliens/Features.
17. Be very cautious in saveing your picture (yes it will save as a
picture even though it is a collection of brushes). If you try to save it to
a Dpaint or Art dsk that is full, it will mess up your current file.
(Actually, it renames the file to backup.pic which means that you have to go
into the CLI to rename it back before you can properly use it.) If it does
happen, check out the files with a load function before you get out of DPaint
to confirm which file name has the proper data in it. If you can't load it,
it's the wrong file!
CAUTION: Remember to swap your working picture area to spare before
loading a new set of parts or you'll lose your work.
I am open for comments.....Frank Lebda
